Integrative Counsellor regMBACP

Fluent in British Sign Language

Hello, I am Alison.

I am a warm and relational counsellor based in Barnstaple.

I have always been drawn to connecting with
and listening to people and understanding the experiences that shape us. In my previous career as a British Sign Language Interpreter I worked with Deaf people in many different settings. Through this work, I developed an understanding of the impact of deafness, and the marginalisation a deaf person may experience.

My job gave me the connection with others and community, but indirectly as I was interpreting for other people, I changed direction and trained in Integrative Counselling. This has enabled me to offer the one-to-one interaction that I have found so beneficial – just to be listened to can be so empowering and healing.

I feel very privileged to be trusted to step into another person’s world, to hear and try to understand their experience as best I can.
I have experience working with adults with a range of issues including domestic abuse, family issues, anxiety, and low self-esteem. I know how challenging the world
can seem and it can take courage to talk to someone else about uncomfortable feelings, but I hope to offer warmth and understanding, and a safe space for
whatever you need to bring.
